I read 22 books in 2024. It’s not the most books that I’ve ever read in a year, but it’s also not the least. And given that I spent several months in a reading slump, I am quite proud of that number. Of those 22, four earned perfect or near perfect ratings from me, and if you follow me (or rather, scroll down), I shall introduce you to them.

Blood Solace by Vela Roth

The book Blood Solace stood upright on a bookshelf

No second-book slump here: Blood Solace is everything I could have hoped for and then some in a sequel to Blood Mercy. Political intrigue, high-stakes subterfuge, amazing world-building, and a swoon-worthy romance: this romantasy ticks all the boxes. Full review forthcoming.

The Wolf King by Laura Palphreyman

The author, a white woman, holds the book The Wolf King in front of her

I didn’t know I was into wolf-shifter romances until I read this book. The Wolf King left me reeling in the best possible way. As soon as I finished it, I had to fight the overpowering urge to turn back to page one and read it all over again. This is how you write a fantasy romance. Full review forthcoming.

Belladonna by Adalyn Grace

The author, a white woman, sits on a sofa reading the book Belladonna

This book had me at Death is the love interest. Belladonna is a gothic delight filled with mystery, romance, and the supernatural. Full review forthcoming.

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

The author, Julia, holds the book Fourth Wing in front of her

I have never been more apprehensive about starting a book than I was with Fourth Wing. I mean, could it really live up to the hype? The answer, as it turns out, is yes – yes, it can. Dragons, action, and a steamy romance: it delivers on all fronts. Full review forthcoming.

And that’s a wrap! Here’s to hoping that 2025 is filled with even more captivating reads!
