Fantasy Romance Recommendations

Fantasy romance is one of my favorite genres. A love story paired with a fantastical setting and a dash of magic or perhaps, a mythical creature – what’s not to love? What follows are a few titles that are perfect for those who feel like dipping their toes into the genre.

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout

As the Maiden, Poppy has been forced to live an isolated existence and maintain the utmost propriety. Romance is strictly forbidden, but given her minimal contact with others, she has had little difficulty adhering to this rule…until now. From the moment that she meets her new guard, Hawke, she is drawn to him, but they can have no future together, unless they are willing to risk the wrath of the gods.

Forbidden romance, twists, turns, and a compelling story – From Blood and Ash is an addicting read. Once you pick it up, you will be hard pressed to put it down.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

A Court of Thorns and Roses is one of those books that is constantly popping up on book lists, including my own, and for good reason – it is a fantastic book. It is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and it features faeries, a slow-burn romance, intrigue, an expansive world, and an unforgettable cast of characters. It is the first book in the eponymous series, and the subsequent books are even better, which given how good this book is, is saying something.

Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa

If you have already read the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and are looking for a similar but even steamier series, check out Rhapsodic, which is the first book in The Bargainer series. Faeries, sirens, sorceresses, and werewolves all make appearances in this book.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

Diana is a witch who has sworn off magic and is keen to live a normal, human existence. Unfortunately, the universe has other plans. When she unknowingly checks out a magical manuscript from Oxford’s Bodleian Library that has hitherto been missing for centuries, hordes of supernatural beings, including vampires, daemons, and other witches, descend upon Oxford, eager to get their hands on the manuscript. One of those clambering for the book is an ancient vampire named Matthew Clairmont, who soon finds himself drawn to Diana for reasons other than the manuscript. Relationships between witches and vampires, however, are strictly forbidden.

A captivating plot featuring star-crossed lovers, magic, and superb writing – A Discovery of Witches has it all.

A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair

A Touch of Darkness is a modern take on the Hades and Persephone myth that cranks up the heat. This book is sexy, fast-paced, and highly bingeable. If you enjoy it, good news: there are currently two other books published in the series, with another on the way.
