Have you ever read a book and loved it so much that you wish you could go back and read it again for the very first time? I certainly have, and what follows are a few such books for me.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Reading Outlander is like going on an adventure. Written in the first person, the story envelops you, transporting you from your sofa to the picturesque Scottish Highlands. Romance, action, suspense, time travel, and a wonderful cast of characters – this book has it all. What’s more, if you like it, there are seven other books in the series that have already been published, with two more planned.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

The book that started it all. A Court of Thorns and Roses is the first book in the eponymous fantasy series. It introduces you to Feyre, the series’ heroine, and Pyrthian, the magical faerie land in which Feyre finds herself living after inadvertently breaking a centuries-old treaty between the humans and Fae. From a slow-burn romance to a well-built world and action to boot, this book will reel you in and make you not want to put it down. The other books in the series are even better, so if you enjoy A Court of Thorns and Roses, you are in for quite the treat with the subsequent books. Read full review →

Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones

This dark fairy tale is a cross between Labyrinth and the Hades and Persephone myth. There is a seductive Goblin King and a young woman, Elisabeth, and the chemistry between the two of them is palpable. The star of Wintersong, however, is Jae-Jones’ writing. Her beautiful, lyrical prose is a sensory experience that breathes life into the characters and their world. This is one of the most memorable books I have read in a while, so I highly recommend checking it out. Read full review →

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

What an amazing and refreshingly original fantasy! Seriously, the hype surrounding Uprooted is well deserved. It has an engrossing plot, well-crafted characters, a memorable villain, and even a touch of romance. And it is a standalone novel, so you do not have to commit to reading an entire series. If you have not had the pleasure of reading this book, stop reading this blog post and go find yourself a copy. Read full review →

North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell

I have lost count of the number of times that I have read North and South, and what I wouldn’t give to be able to relive the magic of reading it for the first time! North and South features one of the all-time classic love stories. Upon moving to the north of England with her family, Elizabeth Hale meets John Thornton, the owner of one of the local mills, and it is loathing at first sight on the part of Elizabeth. As Elizabeth, however, spends more time with him, she begins to wonder whether she misjudged him and gradually finds her feelings of disdain replaced with something altogether different. Well, those are my five picks. What about you? What books do you wish you could read again for the first time?
